Launched in January 2024, the Culture Journey: Engaging Our Community podcast is a show that highlights stories of our University of Michigan values in action. It includes interviews with faculty and staff who share what it means to practice these values. They talk about their special projects, initiatives and the important lessons they've learned along the way. Also joining the show are leaders from different industries who discuss topics like inclusive leadership, the role of technology in the workplace and adapting to change.
The podcast is part of the Culture Journey initiative that began in 2021. It's a place to discuss culture and reflect on what U-M community members are doing to build it. It covers how to embrace growth opportunities, respond to challenges, and build trust within teams.
An Opportunity to Share Insights
Earlier this year, Celia Alcumbrack a marketing manager from the School of Dentistry, shared her thoughts on the School of Dentistry's “You Belong” Campaign, “When you really believe in something and you really believe that you can be the person to speak up for something you really believe in, it can really be worth it…It's made a really big difference in terms of how much I enjoy coming to work and how connected I feel to the community here.” Check out the full conversation with Celia.
In the most recent episode, Darren Dworkin, president and chief operating officer of Press Ganey offered advice about trust to leaders, “All of teamwork, all of engagement really at the end of the day, boils down to your ability to create trust…Find your own way and be authentic around it and build that type of relationship with your team. The worst thing you want to happen is you're running ahead and you turn around and you've left everybody behind.
