Examine the Effects of Unconscious Bias

Group of colorful people.

Interested in how unconscious bias affects your perceptions, decisions and interactions?

Understanding and mitigating bias is a lifelong journey. The Unconscious Bias Learning Suite is an online self-paced module that provides a review of bias, explores what bias can look like and examines how it shows up in the workplace.

You will learn to:

  • Identify how individuals participate in upholding a culture of bias
  • Develop strategies for how to interrupt and mitigate bias
  • Integrate strategies into organizational structures to reduce unconscious, institutional and racial bias in your workplace
  • Become a better colleague to the various individuals in your workplace

This Learning Suite is an expanded replacement for the previous Unconscious Bias in Everyday Life in-person sessions from Organizational Learning. You’re encouraged to participate even if you’ve taken Unconscious Bias in the past. This is a more robust learning experience with additional learning opportunities that take the learning from awareness to skill building.

Hiring managers may be interested in Unconscious Bias in Recruiting and Hiring, which is also the fifth module of the learning suite.

Note: If you’re a Michigan Medicine employee, please note that this learning suite does not fulfill the state requirement for implicit bias education. The Office for Health Equity and Inclusion has created a self-paced online learning suite called Explore: DEI Learning Model and will have an unconscious bias online course to fulfill the state requirement available at a later date.
