Seventy-seven university employees on the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses and Michigan Medicine are members of IUOE (International Union of Operating Engineers) Local 324.  They are involved in important operations such as the generation of electricity and steam, boiler operation and maintenance, and building environmental monitoring.

Employees represented by IUOE receive generous health care benefits including prescription drug coverage, overtime pay, paid time off, retirement savings plans with a 2-to-1 matching employer contribution and more. 

The current IUOE contract expires on November 22, 2025.  The contract went into effect November 28, 2021. Members voted on November 23, 2021 to ratify a new four-year agreement.
