The Enhance the Employee Experience team contributed to the Juneteenth proposal and explored succession planning best practices. It’s also currently developing a proposal to increase productivity for all Voices teams.

This is my first year on Voices of the Staff. I have worked for the University for 23 years. First as part of Housing, then another 20 years for Parking and Transportation
My Name is Syed Irfan Jafry (I go by my middle name Irfan (er-fawn). I have an undergraduate degree in Accounting, an MBA in IT and am currently working on a nursing degree (IKR). I work in the ED at the main hospital and am a member of the DEI committee, the ED Environmental committee, a Michigan Healthy Champion and I’d like to contribute to the Voices of the Staff committee. Like many of you, I have a family and personal life but I love working at UM/MM and I would like to make it an even better place for all. I love to hike, canoe, camp, pick up trash on the streets with my girls and rock climb (indoors and out). Thanks for all you guys do and I hope I can contribute.
I am the academic programming specialist at the Center for Armenian Studies within the International Institute. I’ve been with the university for two years, prior to which I worked at California State University, Northridge as an academic advisor, where I also received my BA and MA in History and Anthropology. When I was in junior college, I took on work study positions and became really passionate about worker’s advocacy, leading me to create my community college’s first ever Student Worker’s club. That began my long career of advocacy which transferred to my working with underrepresented student populations. During my time at the International, I took up serving as chair of the programmers’ committee which is a group dedicated to meeting regularly to discuss common challenges and experiences throughout our area studies units. Through this committee and many other initiatives I’ve taken on, I found the value of staff speaking up and speaking out about workplace issues and I’m so glad to be part of Voices and in the EEE!
